“but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father...” John 14:31 NRSV
Good morning Divine Ones! We are working with the 5th Commandment, “Honor thy Father’s and thy mother: that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” Exodus 20:12. Our passage today speaks to doing as the Father commands. Let’s break it down! We start with the words Father and Mother. “Father as God is “the all-wise provider”; “author of life”; God as personal-loving Father is “indwelling Lord”. Mother is God as the feeling nature; nature of Love; nurturer and feeder of ideas”. (Lessons in Truth). “So when this Commandment tells us to honor our father and our mother, it is telling us to recognize God as the only Cause, the only Presence, and the only Power, and that if we do that our days shall be long in the land—we shall have no troubles or difficulties.” (The Ten Commandments: The Master Key to Life). This calls to mind the “two-ness” that we talked about in the 2nd Commandment. “When we lose sight of the One, our one Lord, we are out of the (divine) flow and start to work with two-ness or God and...we begin to give power to persons, things, false beliefs, which then assert or demonstrate power over us which frustrates the (divine) flow from the One.” (Breaking the Ten Commandments). “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:8 KJV). We need to, with single eye focus, “recognize God as the only Presence and the only Power and the only Cause”. (The Ten Commandments: The Master Key to Life). Sometimes we give power to the calendar and time “You know at my age; If I had had this at twenty; If I had known at thirty” then we are not honoring our father and our mother, but are giving power to the time belief... and time is an illusion. We sometimes give power to matter, by saying, “There are laws of nature, you know. After all you cannot change the law of gravity or Boyle’s Law, or somebody else’s law. Then we are not honoring our father and our mother — we are not honoring God.” (The Ten Commandments: The Master Key to Life). Do as the Father commands. “Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.”Matthew 7:7 NRSV. Do as the Father commands. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and (God’s) righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 KJV. Divine Ones, as we recognize God as the only Presence, the only Power, the only Cause; we are honoring our Father and Mother.
